The Mere, Ellesmere

The Mere at Ellesmere is a key countryside and heritage destination in north Shropshire. SCC identified funding opportunities for investment in the Mereside for environmental, economic, community and educational projects. This commission produced outline recommendations for such projects in the form of proposals for infrastructure, land use and recreation facilities within a coherent site plan. The masterplan highlighted the range of benefits that can be achieved from investment in the Mereside by taking this holistic approach.

The masterplan defined the ‘Mereside Procession’, connecting a sequence of visitor facilities and experiences, from the Wilderness through to the Promenade, and onwards to the playgrounds and Cermorne Gardens. Four key links into the town centre were identified, to encourage capitalising on the high quality ecological, leisure and historical assets of Ellesmere. Several distinct implementation packages were identified, and have since been successfully implemented.
