Park House, Harpenden

Park House is in the centre of Harpenden, but almost hidden away from the nearby greens, shops and pubs. There are 38 apartments with a club house, wellbeing facilities and restaurant. The architecture and gardens combine to make a beautiful and socially engaging place to live. The largest pavilion borders onto to Rothamsted Park, an expansive and historically important green space with many recreation facilities. On the ground floor here the restaurant opens out into the public park. The heart of the community is the courtyard garden, a busy, sunny space with entrances to all the pavilions. There is a terrace for socialising, outside dining and BBQ. The south side of the space is framed with a line of Italian cypress trees, bringing a degree of formal enclosure, but letting sunshine through. The planting includes many climbers on the elevations, emphasising the collaborative architectural and landscape design.
