Llanelli, Coastal Edgeway

The new Llanelli Promenade or Millennium Causeway will bring specific benefits to visitors of the coastal park, namely interpretation facilities, access to water taxis, shelter for boat launching and connecting route options. Perhaps more interestingly, the proposed promenade maintains and responds to the elegant geometry of Brunel’s existing causeway. Visible reference points or ‘navigation aids’ are provided to allow visitors to orientate themselves and to encourage more extensive use of those areas remote from principle arrival points along the northern shore. Continuous views of the estuary at various degrees of elevation are secured along with intermittent access to water level at all states of the tide. New landmark structures act as points of interchange between different modes of transport so that the edgeway becomes a destination in it’s own right, both functionally and architecturally.
