Laganbank, Belfast

One of the most potent memories of the Lagan River is of departure and farewell. For generations, natives of Belfast and its surrounding countryside have left home, sometimes forever, from the quaysides and cavernous sheds of the lower Lagan. If Laganbank has a single theme for the future, it is one of gathering together; for trade, entertainment, active recreation or quiet contemplation. Above all, however, this must be a place of celebration and welcome, where the city may establish a permanent relationship with its origin – the River Lagan. Phased implementation of Camlins masterplan has animated the river edge and set new standards in public realm quality, leading in the regeneration of Belfast city centre.

“I would be very supportive of a Camlin Lonsdale appointment, as they have the ability to understand and interpret the historic context of the site while providing an exciting contemporary design that creates a real sense of place that attracts visitors to enjoy a new open space.”
