Cutting Room Artwork, Ancoats
Cutting Room is an artwork by Dan Dubowitz, which was realised through collaboration with the public realm team. The five frames are precast from white reinforced concrete with copper particles impregnated into all visible surfaces and treated with patination chemicals. The result is a beautiful mottled green effect, which is blossoming over time. They display photographic images relating to the textile industry of which created Ancoats and record the low point of industrial decline. The images are special transparencies, mounted between two sheets of 12mm toughened glass. Each is approximately 1.2m wide x 4.2m high. The rear of the glass, and the lights mounted in the frame sides, are protected by brass mesh screens.
