Castleton Cycle Route, Rochdale

Camlins was commissioned by Rochdale Borough Council to provide streetscape design as part of a coordinated proposal for the new phase of the Castleton Cycle Route, focusing on the residential areas along Manchester Road. The landscape design complements the cycle facilities and seeks to improve the quality of environment for the benefit of the whole community. This second phase aims to provide better opportunities for sustainable methods of transport within Rochdale. It is part of a larger coordinated transport strategy ‘The Bee Network’ within Greater Manchester. Our proposals support social cohesion through an improved streetscape experience. Consideration was given to recreational use through providing areas for the community with every opportunity taken to maximise green interventions and re-purpose unused space. It is also intended that the improvements will help act as catalyst to stimulate economic growth, creating better opportunities for existing and new commercial enterprise.
