Royal College Street, St. Pancras

We proposed a vision to redevelop this brownfield site as a new mixed residential neighbourhood. The masterplan identifies a series of spatial types such as mews, streets, public gardens and communal courtyards, combining to create a place where people will be happy to live, work and visit. Camlins input started with a strategic review of levels, reconfiguring to design out steps with an emphasis on universal accessibility and public realm quality. We then worked with the team and LB Camden officers in a rigorous assessment of how the character of the public realm can best connect with and enhance the surrounding city. A point of interest here is reference to former industrial use of the site by Goodall & Sons, the first producers of the modern playing cards. This offers a wealth of cultural and graphic material that can be woven onto the ‘landscape story’ as the project develops.
