The Knowle, Sidmouth
This is a later living community of 113 apartments with communal wellbeing facilities, swimming pool and restaurant that will be open to the public. It is within the town, on a hill overlooking the sea and has an exceptionally rich landscape and arboricultural heritage. The Knowle was originally an extraordinary private house and grounds, owned in the early nineteenth century by a Mr Fish. He created a private zoo with many exotic animals and plants, which he opened to the public on Fridays. Following many changes of use and a long period of decline, this development seeks to recapture some of this landscape magic. The proposals include cutting back overgrown foliage to reveal long lost views and rejoin different parts of the estate. The Knowle is a great example of our work with PegasusLife, promoting healthy and happy living by linking private spaces with communal areas and the surrounding landscape and community.
