Velindre Cancer Centre GIMS

As part of Camlins work to design and deliver the landscape scheme for the new Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff, the preparation of a Green Infrastructure Management Strategy (GIMS) was required to successfully discharge an Outline Planning Condition. This involved working collaboratively with the wider consultant teams, coordination of numerous specialist workstrands, all within significantly challenging timescales.

The resulting substantial document sets out how the development balances the need to retain and protect a wide range of existing habitats (with sensitive flora and fauna species including Dormice), whilst simultaneously enhancing the wider biodiversity net gain through creation of a new species rich amenity landscapes, including Traditional Orchard Meadows, Wetland Habitats, Wildflower Meadows to Kitchen Gardens. This work is important in giving confidence to Cardiff City Council, Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Assembly Government that this will indeed be the greenest hospital in the UK.
