Church Street, Westminster
Camlins is working within the Arcadis team on this substantial community regeneration project, based on the vision set out in the Church Street Masterplan and integrating with other WCC initiatives. The site consists of three large perimeter blocks and the public realm of Church Street itself. Key aims are twofold. Firstly, the project must deliver 1200+ homes, with particular attention paid to placemaking, rehousing existing tenants, single move decanting and affordable provision. Secondly, the future of the street market (the largest in the borough at nearly 500m long with 120 pitches) must be secured by uplifting the quality and providing modern facilities. One of the most interesting challenges of the project is to upgrade every aspect of the residential environment and public realm whilst maintaining the diverse character of the neighbourhood and avoiding gentrification. Commercial viability is also a key influential factor.
